I have a friend who is a writer. He uses a very old typewriter for almost all of his work. When he has an idea, instead of writing it down, he types it up on his typewriter. There are litteraly hundreds, maybe thousands, of sheets of paper tacked to the walls of his apartment. Some sheets are covered front and back with copy, some sheets just have a single sentence or even a single word. He describes all these sheets as "sketches".
