1.
I always like to use some sort of reference material when I draw figures,
it seems to go more smoothly when I have something to look at. For this
drawing I was lucky enough to have Marissa D. model for me in a couple
of different poses.
|
2. Once
I get a pose I like, I usually sketch it out a couple of times until I
get something I like. This, for me is almost always the hardest part.
|
3. Then
I re-draw it with pencil onto an oversized board. For this drawing I used
a 17” x 24” piece of masonite. I first sanded the masonite
down, then lightly gessoed the surface. This sketch comes pretty easily
after drawing it a few times before on smaller paper.
|
4. After it is loosely sketched out, I start
the inking process. I use an assortment of pens and brushes to get the desired
effect I want.
|
5. When the inking is done, I spray it with
a fixative to seal the ink. Then for this piece, I got a wide brush and
applied a couple of different wood stains and a clear varnish over the top
to give it that streaked yellow look. When that dried, I highlighted some
areas with white acrylic paint.
|
6. After it was completely done I cut some
fence boards down and mounted the drawing on that.
